Well.... finally! I have an awesome hunting story to tell that is the envy of my colleagues! Yup... 2001 was the best year ever. And i'll tell my story so that you will hang on every word.......

We arrived in Saskatchewan, Canada November 14th, 2001. The temperature was a chilly whatever degrees farenheit. We were met at the airport by our host Brad Desjarlais. From there we went to our motel rooms where Charles, Les and I unpacked our bags and settled in for the night.

We woke at 5:00 am the next morning, went for a breakfast and continued on to our stands. Leslie and I arrived at the first site but could not decide who would take the first stand. I said I would... then Les said he would... then I said.... well you get the picture. This went on for five minutes or so... Finally, Leslie took the first stand. And so i grumbled off to my stand...

I arrived at my stand at 7:00a.m., and immediately put out four scent canisters of code blue. The wind was blowing out of the northeast into my face. At 9:30 a.m., I spotted my first deer. He was big. But he went over the hill and didn't give me a shot. My stand was situated in a hollow, so i took it upon myself to drag the stand 25 yards up the hill. After sitting there, all day, trying to figure out the mystery of life.... I spotted some deer walking in the bush! The deer past up one scent canister. When the deer got wind of the scent, he turned and came back to it. He raised his head, curled his top lip back and started shaking his head going down toward the ground. All of a sudden, he froze. He looked straight at me. That smart ol' deer knew the stand had been moved. Another missed opportunity...! He turned and hightailed it into the bush. My heart was pounding like crazy. I started to look for him along the bush with my binoculars. Seeing some deer, i zoomed in, ready to grab my gun. Turned out none were 'him'. My heart fell to my boots. Thinking that was my last time seeing cal 192..... as he is so fondly referred to.... Then a half hour later, like the answer to a hunters prayers, I spotted him on the side of a hill some 400 yards away. I knew it was him because of the 6 inch drop tine on the left side. The deer started walking straight to my stand! I did not want to shoot him straight on. I was hoping he would turn, and just as i thought that... he did. It was almost like i fell asleep in my stand and was have the best hunter dream ever. 362 yards away, i aimed an inch high because my gun shoots a bit low. Wham! I got him in the left shoulderblade, he went down , oh no he was getting up again! I shot two more times finally he stayed down. I ran all the way up to him he was the biggest buck I had ever seen. Wow what a hunt , I would like to thank Brad desjarlais/hunting and guiding services, and his great guides for the hunt of a lifetime..
